Inklings began with a simple question - how can we better support the everyday interactions that help babies communicate, connect and thrive?

For more than a decade, researchers and clinicians at The Kids Research Institute Australia, together with international collaborators, worked to answer that question.

Through years of research, including a pilot study and two controlled clinical trials, they developed and refined what is now known as the Inklings Program.

The research showed that when caregivers were supported to recognise and respond to their baby's unique communication style, babies made gains in their social interaction and communication development.

Caregivers also became more confident in adapting the way they connected and communicated with their child. These findings have been consistently demonstrated across multiple studies, giving confidence that the approach makes a meaningful difference.

Today, Inklings is more than a single program.

It is a growing suite of evidence-informed resources, training and supports that strengthen the relationships shaping early development.

Every new offering is guided by the same commitment that started it all - turning world-leading research into practical support that makes a difference for babies, families and the professionals who work alongside them.

As Inklings continues to grow, ongoing independent and internal evaluations across Australia help us learn, improve and ensure our support continues to meet the evolving needs of children, families and communities for years to come.
