Inklings in SA

Inklings supports families with babies aged 6 – 18 months who are showing early differences in their social interaction and communication. The program builds caregiver confidence in understanding and responding to their baby through up to 10 sessions with a supportive, trained practitioner.

How Inklings works in SA

Inklings supports caregivers to build on their strengths and confidence in responsive communication with their baby, supporting baby development.

Inklings sessions are delivered for 1 hour every fortnight through children’s centres, health clinics, at home or via telehealth.

At the sessions, the practitioner uses short 5–6-minute videos of the parent or caregiver interacting with their baby to build understanding of the different ways their baby communicates their thoughts, feelings and needs.

There is currently no waitlist and cultural supports and interpreters are available throughout at no cost.

Inklings is funded by the Commonwealth Department Health, Disability and Ageing and the South Australian Government. This means there is no out of pocket expense for eligible families in SA.

Slide 1 of 3

I'm really recognising, from these sessions so far, how much more in tune I’ve become with him. I’m not sure if it’s because I’m more aware and trying to be mindful of his communications, or if it’s because I’m more conscious that he’s trying to communicate more, but I’m definitely seeing a lot more response from him.

I didn't think I'd get much out of the program, but I was definitely wrong. You basically get to play with your kid and then get feedback. I was presented with really helpful feedback and skills that have improved my interaction with both of my kids. I understand Inklings is targeted but I'd recommend it for all parents.
