Introducing the Inklings Program
Babies are born with remarkable abilities to communicate yet sometimes the social and communication skills of babies can develop differently to what we typically expect. The Kids Research Institute Australia's Inklings is a new program for babies aged 6-18 months who are showing early differences in their social interaction and communication development.
It was developed from decades of research both in the UK and Australia and supports parents of babies who may be showing some early differences in the way they communicate and interact. These differences may be in areas such as response to their name or instruction, communication with sounds or gestures, motivation towards shared interaction, play and eye gaze.

Who is Inklings for?
Families may benefit from Inklings if:
- Baby is aged 6 - 18 months of age
- They have noticed differences in how their baby communicates and relates with others. For example, your baby may not use gestures such as clapping or waving in the same way as other babies, you may find it difficult to gain your baby's attention, they may not point to show you things or join in social games like peek-a-boo.
- Caregivers, health care providers, or early childhood educators are worried about baby’s social interaction and communication development.
