Progress from November 2023 - November 2025

Inklings in Western Australia is funded by the NDIA for a three-year pilot period that commenced in November 2023 – we are now over halfway through the pilot period.

In this time, more than 599 families have been referred or self-referred into the program, and 343 have commenced the program.

Referral Sources

There are two ways families can be referred to the Inklings program:

  • Self-referral: When Caregivers independently seek out and initiate access to the Inklings program without a formal referral from a professional. This represents Caregivers who identify their child may benefit from Inklings and take the first step to get support themselves. This is accounting for nearly 52% of all referrals in WA to date.
  • Professional referral: When a health professional working with the family (Case Manager, Child Health Nurse, General Practitioner) submit a referral on the behalf of the Caregiver or encourages their participation after identifying support needs. This is accounting for more than 48% of referrals to date.

Gender

During year two, 118 boys and 63 girls commenced Inklings, continuing the trend of higher male enrolment seen in year 1. Since the program’s launch,

211 boys (61.5%) and 132 girls (38.5%) have commenced Inklings.
